Technology Integration 101 – Organized Sites
ORGANIZED SITES are resources that are generally developed with a specific purpose in mind, such as to entertain, present current or historical events, provide background information, instruct, or encourage hands-on activities. They are a combination of site elements and many times will also contain network elements. These sites are generally used for their intended purpose to frame lessons within real and current events, inform learners about a topic, provide exploratory exercises, or provide opportunities to try out newly learned skills. Categories of organized sites include information, databanks, interactive events, current event, historical events, showcases, simulations, and tutorials. These provide good resources to have learners explore problems in context, identify key information sources to learn about complex subject matter, to find information that will help them prepare projects or reports.
Examples of Technology Integration using Organized Sites
– Web-based simulations can provide students with real time simulations that they can manipulate to learn concepts.
– Databases can provide students with real-time databases they can use to interpret, make inferences, or predictions.
– Organized sites can be used for students to research specific topics
– use data or simulations from organized sites to introduce topic
– organized sites can be used to take students on virtual field trips and virtual tours.
