Technology Integration 101 – Network Elements
NETWORK ELEMENTS are those capabilities of the web that facilitate communication with other individuals. In other words, these are the types of resources that connect people electronically to enable shared interactions. Network elements include e-mail, listservs, chat rooms, audio conferencing, and video conferencing. These resources may be used to bring experts into the classroom to provide new content, such as a zoologist who can talk about animal extinction, or to have learners’ work reviewed by experts, such as report of extinct animals critiqued by authors of nature books through email exchanges.
Examples of Technology Integration using Networks
– bring guest speakers in to explain a specific topic.
– Guest speakers and chats can be used to extend questioning strategies to experts outside the classroom.
– chat, conferencing, or other technology-based communication tools used to allow a guest speaker present topic of interest.
– Network elements can be used to link “peers” on collaborative projects, for example listservs and chat rooms can become shared spaces for collaborating.
