Technology Integration 101 – Web-Based Teaching and Learning Resources

In the first example of the animal, we can access and use elements of the web in ways that they were not necessarily intended. A picture of a polar bear on a story about the local zoo can be copied and used outside the context of the story… to motivate students to learn about endangered species, animal classification, creative story writing, or environmental social consciousness.

A website or tutorial on the periodic table can be used as is, an organized site of information, around a specific subject area to help students meet specific learning objectives using multimedia resources organized around a specific topic.

People who are experts, scientists, specialists in some area can be accessed to share information, critique student work, answer questions, and support social learning through internet network elements like chat rooms and video conferences.

This section provides ideas on how some of the resources (elements or completely organized sites) on the web could be used during learning activities in your classroom. The same may be true about other software resources that you have available like clipart, CD/DVD tutorials, etc.

Think about how these resources may be used to enhance your students learning experiences… remember also to be sensitive about (and model to your students) asking permission or citing the use of resources (pictures, text, simulations, etc.) that were created by others.
