Introduction to Computer Clustering pg. 3

collaborativeCollaboratively, a group of learners is working together using 1 computer to accomplish a learning activity. Here are some ideas for engaging learners in collaborative activities:

Engage

a group of learners, using one computer, to work together to find a picture, story, or website that best describe a content area. Team must gain consensus on identifying the best resource and write a short narrative of the process they followed to find the resource and reach consensus.

Prompt

a group of learners, using one computer, to conduct a scavenger hunt for resources to explain a content area. Each member will take turns operating the computer, choosing links or menu items to follow in their search.

Provide

a group of learners, using one computer, with a computer simulation or interactive learning game to explore a specific learning task. Provide them with a learning goal, e.g., determine the patterns of numbers in the game, identify the most important science concept in the simulation, identify the things that are the same and different in each story, describe the main character in the event, etc. Each member will take turns operating the computer, identifying the key concepts, and taking notes.
