Technology Integration 101 – Here is how to use the WELES reflection tool ..

    1. Together, think about what subject area you are preparing to teach, the methods you intend to use, and the activities (Frame, inform, explore, try) you will engage your students in during the session. For example…
        • Lesson focus is the solar system. You intend to give a short presentation on the solar system, engage the students in reading more about the solar system, direct the students to work in teams to create a 2 page summary on planets or celestial bodies of their choice (making sure that all important parts of our solar system are covered by the team), as a class put all of the summaries together into a book on the solar system.

    1. Write these steps down on the WELES lesson planner or a piece of paper. Think about and record how you will facilitate (method) each step in the lesson.
        • Identify each as a frame (intro presentation), inform (reading assignment), explore (group work on projects), try (sharing projects and putting them together)

        • Identify the teaching and learning methods used in the step; Frame-Present; Inform-Active learning; Explore-Collaboration; Try-Collaboration

    1. Think about and identify the types of resources that you and your students will need during each of the major events or activities of the lesson.
        • Frame – pictures of solar system; Inform – note guides plus information, models, pictures, etc, of solar systems and each planet; Explore – activity / product guidelines, plus information from Inform; Try – student summaries

Notice that you have not been prompted yet to think about the technology.. this should all be familiar – you plan lessons all the time!
